Who am I? What do I do?

I’m Dan A’Vard, and I’m a photographer in Melbourne, Australia and specialise in authentic headshots. What does this actually mean? What is an authentic headshot? An authentic headshot is a portrait of the beauty of you. A portrait that shows your physical beauty and also a glimpse of your personality and soul sitting underneath. A portrait that is your best, fullest you.

Almost invariably, headshots are for getting noticed. Whether it's for work or for a date it's about getting attention and also keeping that attention. A headshot should tell the story of you at a glance - and to keep you in peoples' minds so that when you walk in the door they already feel like they know you.

How do I do this? I take the time to get to know you. To chat to you, to share a coffee, food, conversation. To see a bit more of you than the stranger on the street. I have a knack of making people comfortable and I use skills I’ve learnt in Meisner acting training, adaptive leadership, and workshop facilitation to bring out the best of you. A headshot session is a workshop, a class or  a coaching session aimed to bring out the best in you. That's what I love about my job.

What does a shoot look like? Well, the wonderful Luisa Tascone captured this short video of my recent shoot with actor: Jai Allan. It doesn't go for long and is a great glimpse into my work.

This video from Luisa Tascone sums up the way I work.
